Brow Lift

Module Summary

There are many different options for brow and forehead rejuvenation. Surgeons must be able to assess the brow and forehead, accommodate specific patient requests, and develop a customized treatment plan. The most important attributes for preoperative evaluation are brow position and shape, asymmetry, hairline, and scar tolerance. 

Benign Cutaneous Lesions – Non-Pigmented

Module Summary

There are many common benign skin lesions.  This module focuses on non-pigmented lesions.  The main difference between hypertrophic scars and keloid is that keloid lesions grow beyond the boundaries of the original cutaneous wound.  Sebaceous hyperplasia represents proliferation of sebaceous glands in the skin. There are two types of rhinophyma: acne rosacea and fibrous variant.  Trichoepithelioma is an adnexal lesion originating from hair follicles.  Syringomas are benign skin lesions originating from eccrine ducts.

Basic Surgical Principles

Module Summary

The surgeon should be facile with knowledge of facial anatomy prior to surgical intervention. Facial subunits, vascular supply, sensory and motor innervation, and adjacent structures of importance should be evaluated pre-operatively and identified intraoperatively for safe and reproducible surgical outcomes. Surgical planning is imperative – intraoperative adjustments of the plan can be made as needed based on surgical findings.

Otoplasty

Module Summary

Otoplasty can be performed by age five to six since at this age, the ear is almost adult-sized and this will usually precede ridicule by peers. This surgery requires careful preoperative evaluation and counseling. Surgery involves correcting the various abnormalities observed during the evaluation, and usually involves a combination of techniques, which can be categorized into cartilage-cutting vs cartilage-sparing techniques. Surgeon should be aware of early and late complications so as to take precautions to avoid them.

Liposuction

Module Summary

Lipocontouring, via suction assisted lipectomy or liposuction, of the face and neck is an effective method by which a surgeon may perform correction of an overly obtuse cervicomental angle and may be used in isolation in appropriately selected patients.
